Today we took the kids for a bike ride on the W&OD trail. Built on the roadbed of the former Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, the multi-use W&OD Trail runs through the urban heartland and countryside of Northern Virginia. It is 100-foot-wide and runs for 45 miles. There are many off-shoots from the WO&D that go into various parks, and a streams/creek that runs along portions of the trail.
One of my favorite explorations as a kid was a creek… all the different rocks to find and throw in the water, the endless amount of bends in the creek to entice you to go further upstream to look around the next bend.

If you throw a rock, I'll throw a rock! |
Our end destination on the WO&D trail was a little park that you could just see peeking thru the trees of the W&OD trail, with the creek running thru it. I was thrilled when we took our kids to the creek along the W&OD trail and they too showed their love for creek-exploration.
It also ends up that this was dog park. Maliah was in udder estacy watching the dogs run around and swim in the water. She petted 6 different dogs, she was so happy!
Mom and Magnus… off to explore around the bend! : )
